The Seven Types of Rest

Module 5 of 7 · 5 min

Emotional rest

Emotional rest is the freedom to be honest, and to stop managing how you come across. If you spend your day absorbing other people's stress, reassuring, softening, holding it together — you are working, even when nothing is on the calendar.

The sign is a gap between what you say and what is true: "I'm fine" delivered automatically, followed by resentment you cannot fully justify. People-pleasers are chronically short of this one.

The repair is one relationship where you do not perform. A friend, a partner, a coach, a therapist. Someone who does not need you to be okay for their own comfort.

Today: answer one "how are you?" honestly, even by a single degree. Notice how much of your day was spent managing an impression.

The one thing to take

Emotional rest is space to be honest instead of managing how you come across.
