Creative rest
Creative rest is what restores your capacity to solve problems and imagine options. It comes from taking things in rather than producing: nature, music, art, a good story, a long view from a hill.
You are short on it when everything feels like execution, when ideas arrive stale, when you can do the work but cannot see a new way through it. People in this state often describe themselves as uninspired and then push harder, which is precisely the wrong lever.
This is not a luxury reserved for creative professions. Any role that requires judgement runs on it.
Today: give yourself twenty minutes of input with no output attached — no notes, no plan to use it. Something beautiful or interesting, on purpose.
