Leading Yourself First

Module 1 of 2 · 12 min

Your pattern under pressure

Under pressure, most of us have a default move. Some speed up and take on more. Some go quiet and disappear into detail. Some get sharp with people. Some over-prepare to feel safe. None of these are flaws; they are strategies that worked once and became automatic.

The cost shows up in the same places each time: your sleep, your patience, your relationships, the quality of your decisions. Patterns are easiest to spot in their consequences.

Think of the last two weeks. When pressure rose, what did you actually do first? Not what you would like to have done. What happened. Name it in one sentence.

Awareness alone changes behaviour more than people expect. Once you can see the move coming, there is a gap, and in that gap you get a choice.

The one thing to take

Under pressure everyone has a default. Knowing yours is what lets you choose differently.

Quick check

Why does naming your pressure pattern matter?

Try this

Spot the tell

  1. 1.Recall your last pressured week.
  2. 2.Name your default: speed up, withdraw, control, or please.
  3. 3.Name the earliest sign you could catch next time.

What is your default under pressure, and what does it cost the people around you?
